This 'Megalith Map' began in 1997 as a static map of Stone Circles and Rows in the UK, in association with Aubrey Burl. Over the years the site evolved into the Megalithic Portal, where we have added location data and photographs of prehistoric sites of all sorts, running to many thousands of locations all over Europe and beyond.

We also include information on Pictish symbol stones, Holy Wells, Ancient Crosses and a number of other ancient monumental site types based on these being related monument types, and having the data available to us it seemed a shame to waste it. We are looking to expand our coverage to include the Roman and 'Dark Ages' periods in the UK so if you have a data set you would like to share with us please get in touch. Even we acknowledge this will be stretching the name 'Megalithic' too far so we hope to launch new Portal sister sites in due course, time permitting.
